Victoria Gillow

Biography

Victoria Gillow (b. 1970) is a Cornish landscape and seascape painter working with acrylic, ink and oil. Rooted in a deep connection to Cornwall and the sea, her practice centres on painting the coastline directly on site, responding to the shifting light, weather and tide.

She holds a BA (Hons) in Fine Art from the University of Reading, a PGCE in Art and Design from the University of Wales, and an MA in Illustration Authorial Practice from Falmouth University. She currently tutors at the St Ives School of Painting.

Gillow’s work spans the sheltered waters of the Carrick Roads to the expansive Atlantic coast, capturing both the physical landscape and the quieter, more atmospheric sense of place shaped by memory, repetition and a lifelong relationship with the Cornish sea.

“Paths well-trodden become a meditation on time and memory; on a life lived by the Cornish sea since childhood. It is this layering of the personal and the elemental, the deep, quiet pull of place, that lies at the heart of my painting practice.”
