Biography

Emma Williams is a St Ives–based painter whose work is inspired by the Cornish shoreline and its surrounding harbours. She studied textile design at Huddersfield University, where a strong grounding in craftsmanship and material exploration shaped her creative thinking. After working as a freelance textile designer, she moved into full-time painting in 1997.

Her background in printed textiles is evident in her bold use of colour and flattened perspective. Emma paints still lifes and coastal scenes, often framing harbours and bright blue waters through glimpses of interior spaces, gently inviting us into the scene.
