Biography

Falmouth-based environmental artist and educator Álvaro Tamarit (b. 1976) creates sculpture, furniture and functional objects inspired by the natural world, often with a subtle sense of play. His practice has also been shaped by artists such as Alfred Wallis, whose intuitive approach to landscape, use of everyday materials and direct visual language continue to inform Álvaro's way of making. Teaching is central to his practice; he is passionate about helping others engage with art, understand the environment and develop a deeper appreciation for the planet.

Originally from Spain, Álvaro brings his native cultural influence into his work while also drawing inspiration from French, English, Italian and Indian traditions, each of which has informed his personal journey.

In 2023, Álvaro received the award at the III Eco-Sculpture Contest at the University of Social Sciences of Valencia for Savia Sabia (Wise Sap), a book exchange sculpture celebrating the cultural importance of trees, installed for one year at the Universitat de València.

A lifelong learner, Álvaro continually refines his craft, seeking to create work that balances function with beauty.

His mission is simple: to introduce art into the everyday.

2003 - BA + MA Fine Arts, Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Carlos, Polytechnic

University of Valencia, Spain.

2004 - PGCE, Institute of Educational Sciences, Polytechnic University of Valencia, Spain.
