Lynne Cartlidge (b. 1964) is a contemporary painter whose work explores the shifting movement of light across everyday objects. Raised in Cornwall, her aesthetic was shaped early on by the region's unique artistic heritage. She completed her foundation studies at Falmouth Art College before graduating with a degree in Fine Art from Cardiff Art College in 1987, when one of her paintings was selected for Whitworth Young Contemporaries.
Working primarily from life, Lynne often focuses on still life and floral studies, painting seasonal flowers from her own garden. In these works, she has evolved within a tradition that blends Modernist principles with Impressionistic sensibility. Her practice also carries a subtle Eastern influence, derived from a period when she lived with a painter and calligrapher originally from China. During that time, she visited China twice, an experience that informs her sensitive and economical brushwork.
Lynne was elected a member of the Royal Cambrian Academy (RCA) in 2017. While she has been based in Wales since 1984, she maintains strong ties to Cornwall where she has family. Her paintings are held in private collections globally, including the UK, USA, Australia, and Japan.
