Biography
Henrietta Dubrey (born 1966) has lived and worked in West Penwith, Cornwall, for the last twenty five years. She studied in London at the Byam Shaw School of Art, Wimbledon School of Art and the Royal Academy Schools. She works in both abstract and figurative genres, and her painting practise has been influenced by the St Ives Middle Generation artists, such as Roger Hilton and Terry Frost.
Her studio is surrounded by moorland and the Cornish coast; granite walls, rocky outcrops, and the vast expanse of the Atlantic Ocean. The colours of the sea, sky, rocks, heather, bracken, gorse, feed intermittently as accents into her gestural and painterly abstract canvases. Her figurative paintings tend to be fed by her interest in contemporary culture; fashion, painting, architecture, photography, music and film. She has a passion for printed material; books and magazines.
